Melbourne International Film Festival announces first titles

The first titles for this year's Melbourne International Film Festival have been announced, with a collection of films from the Sundance, Rotterdam, Toronto, Berlin (and Sydney) festivals.

The festival's 'First Glance' release includes the Nicole Kidman and Jackie Weaver-starring Stoker, Tim Winton's The Turning featuring Cate Blanchett and David Whenham, Călin Peter Netzer's Child Pose and Shane Carruth's Upstream Color.

The music-orientated The Stone Roses: Made Of Stone and The Sunnyboy will follow on from the Sydney Film Festival to Melbourne.

Also included the first reveal are Aim High In Creation, Galore, apocalyptic flick These Final Hours, Father Bob Maguire doco In Bob We Trust, local horror film Patrick, Iranian Closed Curtain, Sundance jury-prize winning The Spectacular Now, Gloria, Snow White-retelling Blancanieves, Ginger And Rosa, What Maisie Knew, Cutie And The Boxer, The Pervert's Guide To Ideology, The Crash Reel and Blackfish.

Indies such as Paul Rudd's Prince Avalanche and Noah Baumbach's Frances Ha make the cut, as do thrillers with Geoffrey Rush in The Best Offer, Rachel McAdams' Passion, Outrage Beyond and You're Next.

As well as Bob Maguire's, other docos include The Spirit Of '45, The Act of Killing, Stories We Tell and Teenage.

The festival will run from Thursday 25 July to Sunday 11 August. The full program will be announced on 5 July. Tickets from here.
