Mazzy Star's David Roback has passed away, age 61.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the news was confirmed by a publicist on behalf of the group, with no cause of death given.

In addition to his work with Mazzy Star (which he co-founded with Hope Sandoval in Los Angeles in 1989), Roback was also a founding member of Opal and Rain Parade.

Mazzy Star made their debut Australian appearance in 2018, with Roback telling The Music in an interview that "Music is very visual in the sense that it triggers a sort of cinematic reaction in the mind.

"This reaction is really very personal, very individual. But it's universal that this happens." Read the full interview here.
