A Florida man has reportedly been arrested by police for allegedly stealing the identity of Nickelback's drummer to purchase an estimated $25,000 in music equipment.

According to TCPalm, Lee Howard Koenig was arrested on Tuesday and slugged with two felony fraud charges.

An affidavit reportedly reads that police were alerted by a band security specialist on 19 January that Nickelback's Daniel Adair "had his identity used to fraudulently order drum parts from a company in Vienna, Austria".

"Essentially, when he placed the order in Austria, I guess at this level of band… you have a lot of people that work for you," Detective Paul Griffith said.

"One of the people in [Adair's] group thought it was out of the ordinary when they were getting contacted as to confirming the order."

Investigators determined that Adair had not made the purchase and also that the email used was not his.

"It was also noted that Daniel Adair does not live in Florida..." the affidavit continues.

It has since been found that Koenig is a fellow musician, who in 2009 spent three years in prison for fraudulently obtaining $78,000 two years prior.

Meanwhile, Nickelback are gearing up for a North American tour this June in support of their forthcoming album, Feed The Machine.

The Canadian rock outfit are yet to publicly comment on the incident.
