“The prospect of facing a last-minute cancellation is too crushing, potentially causing a blow we would not be able to come back from."
After postponing last year’s event, organisers behind Beyond The Valley have announced significant changes to the 2021 festival.
The beloved annual event will not return in its usual format, but organisers are “working hard behind the scenes with relevant Government authorities to plan a special one-off BTV across two days (30/31 December) at an inner-city location”.
“While we had full intention of making a triumphant comeback in our usual format this year, the reality is the situation in Australia remains volatile and the threat of snap lockdowns makes planning a large-scale camping festival unfeasible,” a statement from the BTV team on Facebook reads.
“Planning an event like this takes significant investment, months of planning and weeks of set up time. With no insurance currently available for events and no concrete timeline for music festivals to return, we’ve sadly made the decision that Beyond The Valley will not be operating as a four-day camping event this year.
“The prospect of facing a last-minute cancellation is too crushing, potentially causing a blow we would not be able to come back from and shattering all of your New Year’s plans.”
It’s been confirmed that a line-up and venue have both been booked and that more details will be released soon, depending on how the current COVID situation plays out in the weeks to come.

In an additional statement released to the media this afternoon, organisers said: "We feel a deep sense of responsibility to keep the live music industry alive, we see an opportunity here to provide hundreds of jobs to artists, site crew, food trucks, bar staff, roadies, stage designers, production managers and more, whose livelihoods have been shattered as a result of this virus."
The BTV changes follow news yesterday that Bluesfest’s October event had been pushed to next April.
As events across the country continue to be impacted by the ongoing COVID crisis, politicians and musicians are calling on the Government to provide more support for the music industry.
