Lil Nas XLil Nas X has offered fans an update on his mental health, revealing that he recently spent time in rehab and that he has new music on the way.
In August 2025, the Old Town Road star, born Montero Hill, was arrested after he was found walking the streets naked and allegedly charged at police officers in Los Angeles.
He was arrested just after 6 am and was subsequently hospitalised for a potential drug overdose. At the time, Reuters reported that upon his hospitalisation, he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
According to footage of the incident obtained by TMZ, Hill was only wearing underwear and cowboy boots, and he claimed he was going to a party.
Flash forward to this April, and California Judge Alan Schneider ordered Hill to undergo a mental health treatment program to avoid conviction.
“When treated, he is much better off, and society is much better off,” Judge Schneider said, also noting that the singer “appears to be doing very well.”
Hill told Rolling Stone after the Judge’s ruling, “I’m thankful. Just very thankful. It could have been much worse.”
Now, Lil Nas X has taken to social media. Sharing a video on Instagram, Hill is visibly beaming with happiness as he tells fans he’s “feeling better.”
Adding that new music is on its way, Hill shared, “I wanted to let you guys know that there is new music on the way, and I’m not getting completely into that just yet, but I’m excited to do that.”
The video continued with Hill revealing that he spent “a few months” in rehab before returning home to his family and friends.

He also admitted that he’s been seeing a therapist and psychiatrist, and he thought he might have bipolar disorder for a few years, but “didn’t wanna admit it” as he didn’t want others to think differently of him.
Hill explained, “I’ve been in rehab for a few months, and since then, I’ve been back at home, whether it’s in Atlanta with my family or Los Angeles with myself and friends and whatnot, and trying to ground myself down to Earth and get out of my head. I have a therapist now and a psychiatrist, which has been really helpful.”
He continued, “When I got my bipolar disorder diagnosis, I feel like I had known for the past few years, but I didn’t wanna admit to it because I didn’t wanna have to take medication and have people think different of me. I mean, I’m already Black and gay. Like, damn, God... I’m living life on extreme hard mode!”
His video concluded, “But on a serious note, I’m doing much better, I’m feeling better, I’m creating freely, and there’s less fear in my heart. I’m just smelling the roses.”
