Blak Social have shared new details for the upcoming Last Night: Blak Day Out event – a flagship party on this year’s Open Season program – after it was postponed back in May.
Blak Day Out was originally slated to go down on June 1, the first day of Open Season 2024 and incidentally the first day of winter, but it was ultimately iced the day prior (May 31) due to extreme weather conditions. Instead, the event will be held on Saturday August 24, marking the close of the festival’s program.
The free, all-ages party will take over King Street in the Bowen Hills precinct of Brisbane (Magandjin), kicking off at 3:30pm with an array of live music performances, a silent disco (hosted by DJ Kritty), a live mural painting, dance activations, pop-up bars, street food stalls and Indigenous retailers.
Taking to the stage will be Emma Donovan, 3% (the supertrio of Nooky, Dallas Woods and Angus Field), Sue Ray, BADASSMUTHA and The Ancient Bloods.
In a press statement, Blak Social creative director Alethea Beetson said of the fast-impending event: “Blak Day Out is a space for community to come together and celebrate the music being made by this continent’s very first musicians. The lineup gives audiences a taste of the vast world of Indigenous music which should be celebrated all year round.”
As mentioned above, Last Night: Blak Day Out will be free to hit up – you can head here to register your attendance.
