More Tame Impala More Tame Impala

The wait for new material from Tame Impala might soon be over, it seems, with frontman Kevin Parker previewing a new track from the project over the weekend.

Parker was in Spain recently, having made a surprise appearance at the Primavera Sound festival on Friday, where he played a DJ set mixing in plenty of Tame Impala’s previous cuts. However, the next night, Parker played a surprise set at Barcelona’s Nitsa Club, where he upped the excitement levels by asking fans a question they’ve undoubtedly been longing for.

“You guys want to hear a new song?” Parker asked to expected excitement. “You want to hear a new Tame Impala song?

“You're going to be the first ones to her it, you realise? There's no going back from this point on, you realise?” he added. “Alright, let's do it; get comfortable.”

As he previewed the new track, it showed a clear indication of a more club-ready version of Tame Impala than some fans might be used to.

Still utilising the same dreamy sound and psych-laden vibes that is synonymous with the Tame Impala brand, its dance-heavy beat either proves that Parker is heading down a sonic route more appropriate for clubs, or that it can effortlessly slide into a mix of this nature.

Whatever the case, it ends a dry spell for fans of Tame Impala who have been waiting years for new music. As it stands, it’s been over five years since the release of the fourth (and most recent) album, The Slow Rush, which became Parker’s second album to top the Aussie charts, and his best-charting release globally.

Since then, he’s been far from lazy. In 2023, fans did receive the song Journey To The Real World on the soundtrack to Barbie, and in the previous years, remixes for artists such as Elvis Presley and Crowded House also arrived.

Additionally, Parker also found himself in the producer’s chair for Dua Lipa’s Radical Optimism album and invented a new synthesizer, while Tame Impala were also credited as guests on Justice’s 2024 tracks One Night/All Night and the Grammy Award-winning Neverender.

Though there’s yet to be any official word as to when this new track will see a formal release (or even receive a proper name), eager fans can rest assured that Parker hasn’t forgotten them.
