The winner of the 2024 Corner Award has been announced, with Papua New Guinea born, Naarm/Melbourne based artist Kaiit taking out the honour.
Announcing its nominees back in September, the Corner Award revealed it was doing things a little differently this year. Alongside its Main Award (which is chosen by a panel of industry insiders), the Fan Favourite would be decided by a public vote. Ten artists were nominated for the honour, representing a vast cross-section of Melbourne's diverse music community.
This year featured the likes of The Belair Lip Bombs, Agung Mango, Gut Health, Folk Bitch Trio, Miss Kaninna, Cool Sounds, Good Morning, Grace Cummings, and Dr Sure’s Unusual Practice all in contention for the award.
Now, the beloved Richmond venue has named Kaiit has the recipient of the top honour.

As part of their prize, Kaiit takes home a $10,000 cash prize and a headline show at the Corner, along with a venue contribution (worth $8,5000) which includes free venue hire for a show; production/rehearsal day; marketing and media support for show including radio carts, social media promotion, newsletter inclusion; and a photo shoot with Ian Laidlaw.
Kaiit will also take home a Brennan Backline voucher, a full-page feature in Beat Magazine, while a Laidlaw-shot photo will appear in the Corner Hotel Hall of Fame.
Meanwhile, Grace Cummings has taken out the Fan Favourite award, coinciding with her Ramona album being shortlisted for the Australian Music Prize. Cummings will take home $500 in cash alongside a Brennan Backline voucher.
The award is another impressive milestone in Kaiit’s already-stellar career, which includes a multitude of impressive singles released in recent years, such as the recently-released Space.
Kaiit also boasts a well-deserved ARIA Award, taking out Best Soul/R&B Release in 2019 for Miss Shiney, and was just last month up for Best Song or Track at the Music Victoria Awards for Space.
