Australia is set to receive another “multi-genre” music festival, with the supposed focus on EDM, according to new posts shared on social media.
On Wednesday (13 August), a poster about the new festival, Hypersonic, was shared on Instagram. On the bright orange image is the reveal of two dates and venues: the festival will visit Sydney Showground on Saturday, 29 November, and Melbourne’s Showgrounds on Sunday, 30 November.
“Introducing hypersonic: The ground-breaking multi-genre festival you need in your life. Step into summer with hypersonic,” the caption reads.
“Multi-stage line-up drop of the year: loading… 👀Sign up for pre-sale and get the group chat ready for a full send.”

Hype is already through the roof, however, as some commenters on Instagram and Reddit believe the event may have ties to the beloved, missed Stereosonic Music Festival.

Over on the triple j Reddit, user Flowercloud88 shared the image with the caption, “Stereosonic returns as Hypersonic Festival?” In the comments, punters are hoping for performances from Tiesto, Calvin Harris, Swedish House Mafia, Armin van Buuren, and David Guetta, among others—primarily artists who haven’t visited Australia in a while.
On Instagram, Hypersonic “collaborated” with Hardware Group and SYMBIOTIC Presents in sharing their post.
Both organisations present electronic music events in Australia, including Dreamstate in Melbourne and Sydney, Ascend Adelaide, Altitude: Elements of Unity, Hyperdome: Phoenix Rising, Transmission, Tempo, and other festival events.
SYMBIOTIC Presents shared in the comments, “We've brought you HYPERDOME, a 360° visual experience, HYPERAVE, a hard, fast, dirty rave. And now, in collaboration with Hardware, we bring you the game changer: hypersonic. The multi-genre music festival with the biggest line-up we've ever put together.”
Stay tuned for more information from Hypersonic Festival organisers as it arrives.
