'We were going to need more security, and they didn’t believe us.'
The long-time manager of Justin Bieber has again called out Australian news program Sunrise after a 2010 appearance on the show by the Canadian pop star took a turn for the worst, with police being called to the scene and a number of punters being hospitalised.
The then-16-year-old singer was making his debut appearance on the TV show and was set to play at Sydney’s Overseas Passenger Terminal, however police forced Sunrise producers to call off the gig as 5000 people turned up, resulting in Bieber instead performing inside the Channel Seven studios at Martin Place.
Riot police were forced to hold off fans during the performance, while 14 people needed ambulance treatment and a further eight were taken to hospital.
As news.com.au reports, Bieber's manager, Scooter Braun, referenced the incident in the documentary, Bodyguards: Secret Lives from the Watchtower.

"I think we started realising we needed security when thousands of people started showing up at radio stations," Braun said.
"Then we went to Australia, and we told the Australians at this Sunrise TV show that we were going to need more security, and they didn’t believe us, and then the kids rioted the streets."
Former Sunrise executive producer Adam Boland said Braun was right to say more security was needed on the day.
"It was a freak event that even scared the riot squad," Boland said.
"Bieber was still on the rise at the time so we underestimated his fan base. It was a mistake we only made once."
