Locking down a huge first program last month, Melbourne Music Week has today confirmed its 2017 hub.
Next month’s event – which includes the annual Face The Music summit and The Age Victoria Music Awards – will utilise the historic St Paul's Cathedral from 17 – 25 November.
It’ll be the first time the iconic building will host such an event, with four shows already announced for inside the 126-year-old building and the carpark line-up unveiled on October 17.
“Music plays a critical role in our city’s economic, cultural and social fabric,” Lord Mayor Robert Doyle AC said.
“Standing in the heart of the city, The Cathedral will provide a unique and unexpected setting for a cutting-edge live music program.”
Smooch Records have curated MMW’s opening night inside ‘The Cathedral’, headlined by experimental US artist Juliana Barwick, alongside Kath Bloom, Divide & Dissolve, Wilson Tanner, Kirkis, James Tom & Jack Doepel (Krakatau), and Two Steps On The Water.
The following night will see German veteran icon DJ Hell joined by Honeysmack, Acid Safari, DJ Kiti and Sundelin, while closing weekend performances come from Sampa The Great, Fortunes, The Harpoons. Spike Fuck, Marcus Whale, Anuraag (DJ Set), Wahe (DJ Set), Good Manners, Banoffee, Planète, Darcy Baylis, Exhibitionist and Jennifer Loveless.
