If You've Been Waiting For Midnight Oil Tour News, Your Wait Is Likely Almost Over

It appears as though the big announcement is imminent

In May last year, Midnight Oil announced their intention to hit the stage together again in 2017 for a series of gigs in Australia and overseas.

At the time, they said it would be "at least the end of [2016] before we know exactly where or when" that would eventuate.

That's understandable, given how cagey Garrett had been about the prospect of a reunion on Sunday Night, just a handful of months before the band's revival statement. These things take time.

Well, as the good folk at Tone Deaf have noted, it looks as though the wait is pretty much over for anyone who has been holding on to cruel hope that some information would have emerged about the band's plans by now: promoters Frontier Touring have posted a tweet with the positively ominous caption "Soon..." — as subtle as Garrett is hirsute — indicating that there's a big old announcement coming our way from the Oils' camp this coming Friday, 17 February.

It's probably a safe bet that this is the news Midnight Oil fans have been holding out for, but since we've been burnt once already this week, we're just going to cover our bases here and say that it's "exceptionally likely" that this announcement has something to do with those long-touted shows, but it equally could be a press conference to unveil Garrett's new line of scalp wax or something, so let's just wait till Friday to lay this one to rest for real.

Still — you can probably start getting a little excited, at least.
