It's been a big week for Hoodoo Gurus!
It's been a big week for Hoodoo Gurus who have announced a huge 40th anniversary tour and have now dropped the clip for their brand new single, World Of Pain.
Speaking to The Music earlier this week, frontman Dave Faulkner shared that this might just be the first taste of new music from the group, as well as divulging the slightly embarrassing origins for the inspiration of the video.
“It’s a song that’s basically all about getting hammered and making a mess of yourself and getting into trouble. You know, everyone does these things and indulges in them even when they think they’re long past it,” Faulkner lamented.
“The video is inspired by an event from two Christmases ago - and we’ve recreated it in the video. I was pretty out there at the Christmas lunch with a bunch of friends, and we started arguing about climate change. It’s something I very much believe is real, but unfortunately a couple of the people there didn’t. So things got a little bit heated, if you’ll pardon the pun, and I got a little bit extravagant in my arguments. Some furniture may or may not have been damaged.
“It was right in the middle of when Sydney was just choking of bushfire smoke - and just right through that Christmas and New Year period was that horrible bushfire season - so there we were, the city choking on smoke, and people are saying to me ‘nah, I don’t believe in all that.’ And I’m just there going ‘look around you! You can see, physically, what you’re breathing! It’s the manifestation of our forests and bushland drying out and literally burning.’ Anyway, let’s just say the combination of that and me having had a few too many red wines inspired that video.”

There's further good news for Gurus fans with Faulkner teasing that a new album is on the way, with plans for release later this year.
“We’re finishing it up now, and we plan to have it out before the tour - we’re madly trying to finish it all up and get it all ready for that release timeframe.”
The album will feature some of the group's 2020 single releases, however Faulkner added added, “We’re not gonna put Hang Up To Dry - the Trump song - onto this one. Mainly because we just don’t want to think about him anymore. We’ve made our peace and said what we said, and we just liked the idea of it being a one-off single as well. Plus we just have so much other stuff in there now, as it stands we almost had to make a double album just to fit everything in there.”
