It’s been a long time coming for Hollow Coves fans, with the Gold Coast duo finally announcing their long-awaited follow-up to their 2019 album Moments.

Matt Carins and Ryan Henderson haven’t exactly been quiet since 2019, having released the 2021 EP Blessing and standalone singles, including On The Way, Letting Go, Harder To Fake It, and more. But for those who have been waiting for another full-length release, today is your day.

The new album, Nothing To Lose, will be released on Friday, 1 March. You can pre-order or pre-save the album here and be in the running to win signed vinyl, two tickets for one of the duo’s shows this year, or a mysterious “adventure pack”. You can check out the first single, Photographs, below.

For Nothing To Lose, Carins and Henderson aimed to challenge their signature folk-rock sound by writing separately for the first time in a long time, gradually adding songs to a working “new songs” folder. They then collaborated on the songs that resonated the most, co-writing with Matt Corby, Alex Henrikkson and Chris Collins. The songwriting sessions went so well that Hollow Coves chose Corby as the album’s producer.

Henderson said in a statement regarding the new single, “This was the first song we wrote during our writing sessions with Matt Corby and Alex Henrikkson. We ended up having a conversation in the studio about how photographs used to be something special that people would keep in a photo album. However, now that we can take photos with our phones, it seems like photos will most likely just get lost amongst the sea of photos.

“Matt (Carins) brought up that his mum has kept a photo album for him and his siblings since they were born. We all thought that was pretty special and kind of a lost art in this day and age. So we decided to write a song about her and the lost art of the photograph.”

The band added about the album, “The whole record is based on our personal experiences of trying to slow down and realise that living simply is the best for our souls. The world is in such a rush these days, and with that, there’s a lot of stresses and anxieties. Our lifestyle from living on the Gold Coast and having such a great community made us naturally write about topics that will hopefully inspire the listener to think about what’s actually important to them.”

In other recent Hollow Coves news, the group are embarking on a massive world tour from March through to June, hitting up Europe and the UK before touring in North America and Canada. To date, Hollow Coves have amassed over a billion global streams, 200 million YouTube views and 2.4 million Shazams.
