The Allman Brothers have been cast.

A new biopic adapted from legendary southern rock musician Gregg Allman's memoir My Cross To Bear is gaining serious momentum, with the two Allman Brothers now cast.

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that pop-punk musician Tyson Ritter, frontman of the All-American Rejects, will play Gregg Allman in the film, which has the working title of Midnight Rider, while Duane Allman will be played by actor Wyatt Russell. Both actors will perform their own vocal, guitar and keyboard parts in the film.

This won't be the first musical biopic that Ritter has been involved in; next year audiences will see his work in Love and Mercy, a film about the life of Beach Boys songwriter Brian Wilson starruing John Cussack and Elizabeth Banks. In that film he plays Hipster #1, so one would imagine the role of Allman is a little meatier for the up and coming actor.

Musically, the Allman Brothers is a long way from what Ritter has been renowned for in the past.

The film is scheduled to enter production in February.

Gregg Allman makes his way to Australia for the first time in 2014, performing at Bluesfest and two huge Southern rock sideshows in April. Details are in theGuide below.
