As Naarm/Melbourne-based outfit Folk Bitch Trio gear up for a massive year, the group have unveiled a new single alongside their signing to the iconic Jagjaguwar label.
Having unveiled a run of singles over the years, and even capturing the attention of Phoebe Bridgers, who described them as “Boygenius if it was from the ‘40s or something,” Folk Bitch Trio have spent the past couple of years hard at work, honing their craft as they record new material and deliver stellar live shows.
Having last released a new single by way of August’s God’s A Different Sword, the group have now returned with The Actor. A confessional piece of storytelling that captures their signature three-part vocals and pairs it with their slick songwriting, it’s a powerful track about “falling hard and fast and breaking down quick too.”
“[The lyrics] flow down from affectionate details you notice about someone when falling in love, fighting and fucking, and ultimately the demise of a relationship at your partner’s solo theatre play,” they explain.”
Recorded at Roundhead Studios, Auckland, NZ/Aotearoa alongside Tom Healy, the new track also comes accompanied by a video co-directed by Bridgette Winten and the band.
Its release is also accompanied by the news that the band have signed to the famed indie label Jagjaguwar, joining names such as Bon Iver, Gordi, Sharon Van Etten, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, and more.

“Folk Bitch Trio is a band with an undeniable point of view, timelessly rich harmonies, and above all a lack of fear,” the label said of the group while announcing the signing. “Their work is lively, layered, and thoughtful. At times serious but never humorless.”
Folk Bitch Trio – which comprises Gracie Sinclair, Jeanie Pilkington, and Heide Peverelle – first formed five years ago, with its members becoming inseparable since. Noting their “hearts are very melded,” which results in unified storytelling, Peverelle add that the group’s music covers “loss, fear, sex, rage, elation but most importantly love and laughs.”
The band are currently in the process of readying their debut album, with more news to arrive in the near future.
