876 people were treated for injuries, 82 kicked out

A young girl who has been “seriously burned and disfigured” by a flare has marred the Sydney leg of Soundwave.

Three flares were believed to have been let off during the day, including at the sets for Metallica and Bring Me The Horizon. It was during the latter that the young girl sustained the injuries, the full extent of which are not yet known. The Australian reported that the flare burnt plastic which fell on the teenager, who then underwent emergency treatment at hospital.

Festival promoter AJ Maddah angrily took to Twitter following the incident and asked for information.

“Dear piece of shit who lit the flare in Bring Me The Horizon pit: tonight you seriously burned and disfigured a young girl. I hope you fucking get yours,” he wrote. “If we catch anyone with flares you'll not only be evicted/arrested, I'll dedicate every iota of energy and money I can muster to ruin your life… If anyone can correctly identify this son of a bitch I will shower you with so much tickets, backstage and cash you wont know what to do.”

Police have confirmed the incident and are believed to be carrying out an investigation.

There were more than 200 police officers at yesterday's event at Sydney Olympic Park and they made 252 person searches, identifying 54 people allegedly in possession of illicit drugs – include cannabis, ice and other amphetamines. 82 people were kicked out of the festival, many of them for being drunk.

Acting South West Metropolitan Region Commander Peter Lennon said, “An overwhelming majority of the 75,252 people in attendance behaved responsibly, but there were a small number who let the rest down. While one person is too many, we were pleased to see far fewer people in possession of and affected by drugs at this festival.”

A total of 876 patients were treated by paramedics with 13 sent to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Maddah has yet to return theMusic.com.au's request for further information.

Elsewhere weather played havoc between the Brisbane and Sydney legs, with two trucks turning delayed on route. It resulted in a bit of timetable juggling with Garbage being unable to play and Paramore pushed back to close a stage.

The actual music performances of the event have been praised by punters. See yesterday's gallery here!
