Dua Lipa has denied any rumours that she will perform at the opening ceremony of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar this Sunday, 20 November. The World Cup will continue until 18 December in the country's capital, Doha.

While speculation has spread, the Don't Start Now singer confirmed that her performing at the event was never a possibility.

In an Instagram story, she wrote, "There is currently a lot of speculation that I will be performing at the opening ceremony of the world cup in Qatar. I will not be performing, and nor have I ever been involved in any negotiations to perform. I will be cheering England on from afar.

She also said, "I look forward to visiting Qatar when it has fulfilled all the human rights pledges it made when it won the right to host the World Cup."

Lipa isn't the first to hold Qatar accountable for human rights abuses, including the death of migrant workers in building soccer stadiums, the lack of women's rights and the country's views on homosexuality, which is illegal in Qatar. World Cup organisers have received plenty of criticism for holding the 2022 event in the country.

The iconic wax museum Madame Tussauds recently revealed Dua Lipa as their latest muse and wax figure, set to be erected in their Sydney store.

Many fans claimed Lipa's new wax figure is the best and most realistic in a line of celebrity wax figures that Madame Tussauds has slowly released worldwide.

Clad in a colourful two-piece and long blonde hair, the singer's wax double replicates her look for the 2020 Sydney Mardi Gras, where Dua Lipa performed her top hits, including Levitating, One Kiss, Don't Stop Now and New Rules.

Dua Lipa's current Australian tour is in celebration of the UK artist's acclaimed second album, Future Nostalgia, which was released in 2020.

"I am beyond excited to be bringing my world tour to Australia, it's been way too long, but I promise, we are going to have one heck of a party," Lipa said when the shows were announced last year.

Future Nostalgia certainly saw Dua Lipa pick up fans around the globe, including here in Australia, where the album came in at #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart

"At a mere 37 minutes total runtime, Future Nostalgia is one of the most considered and refined pop albums in recent years," said The Music in the 2020 mid-year albums report.

"The epitome of 'all killer, no filler,' it's a wondrous mix of funk, pop, R&B and even '90s house for UK artist Dua Lipa, who has been busy carving out her own unique notch in the industry since her self-titled debut in 2017." Read the complete wrap-up here.
