A further 26 acts have been added to the line up.
They initially teased us with news that the wonderful Cat Power was to be playing the 2013 Golden Plains with her new band, then followed that up with news of George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic getting on the action. But now Aunty Meredith and her team have unleashed a much bigger bill on us and another tasty one for the seventh edition of the annual event.

CAT POWER:
Don't miss a beat with our FREE daily newsletter
Chan Marshall has, over the years, developed into one of indie music's most celebrated songwriters and performers, and while she has caused plenty of chatter about odd behaviour during live shows, every chance one gets to see Cat Power perform ought to be cherished. She will be playing Golden Plains with her new band, taking in the Saturday evening sunset slot for what we just know will be an enchanting performance.
DINOSAUR JR:
One of indie rock's most inimitable forces, Dinosaur Jr are one of those rare acts whose new material truly stands up to the songs they were putting out before they split. They haven't been shy about making their way back to Australia since getting back together and seeing them back at the Supernatural Ampitheatre is going to be just dreamy (and very loud).
TALLEST MAN ON EARTH:
A definite favourite of many Australians, this Swedish artist loves Bob Dylan, traveling, open guitar tunings and his wife Amanda Bergman – all of which play a significant part in the music which The Tallest Man On Earth produces. His third album There's No Leaving Now was released a couple of months ago and he was always going to come over here to support its release; it just so happens he'll be doing it at Meredith's Golden Plains festival next March.
GEORGE CLINTON & PARLIAMENT FUNKADELIC:
One of contemporary music's most important bands; both George Clinton's Parliament and Funkadelic bands were nothing short of ground breaking and laid the platform for so much music that was to come. Their live shows are the thing of legend and George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic will appear as a full 17-piece ensemble to the Supernatural Ampitheatre for a very serious funk party on the Sunday night of Golden Plains. We love to funk you, Funkenstein, your funk is the best.
THE JON SPENCER BLUES EXPLOSION:
With their recently released Meat and Bone LP, New York trio The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion have stripped back their sound to an utterly primal garage blast. This band has spent over two decades as the coolest motherfuckers on the circuit and it's a pleasure to hear of their return to Australian shores on the back of this great new record.
PURITY RING:
This Montreal-based duo are one of the more unique propositions amongst the current crop of indie-electronic bands, their live performance style is unlike any you've seen before, the band's Corin Roddick controlling the sound and lights from the stage as they pump through their dreamy brand of indietronica. The Shrines album they released in July was a real stunner and we can't wait to see them perform plenty of songs from it on the live stage.
MOODYMANN:
While he's technically a tech-house producer from the fertile Detroit scene, there aren't too many producers out there who pump out tracks that drip with the amount of soul as Moodymann's. There's a kind of groove that pumps through the tunes that sets him apart from other similar artists; you'll feel it when he drops a bunch of big tracks at Golden Plains next year.
THE MARK OF CAIN:
One of Australian rock'n'roll's most anticipated releases in ages, The Mark Of Cain will finally drop their Songs Of The Third & Fifth LP next Friday and will pummel the living daylights out of the audience at the Golden Plains festival early next year in celebration of this exciting release. The Scott brothers have been slamming out incredible brutal alt-metal since 1984 and we can't wait to see if they've become any fiercer than the last time we saw them.
TORO Y MOI:
When the chillwave movement hit in the American summer of 2010, Toro Y Moi – the performance moniker of South Carolina musician Chazwick Bundick – was one of the most exciting things to come from it. He has very quickly become incredibly popular and has leant his considerable talent to a number of different recording and live endeavours. He will have a new record out very early in the New Year and will be here to play us plenty of material from it in March.
WILD NOTHING:
Gemini, the 2010 debut LP for Virginian dream pop outfit Wild Nothing, was an acclaimed piece of work that set the blogosphere alight, plenty of praise being heaped upon the songwriting of Jack Tatum. Tatum and co have managed to follow it up pretty damn nicely with album number two Nocturne and those who hit Golden Plains will get a chance to see what the band can do when those songs are taken to the live stage.
PSARANTONIS:
Greek composer/performer Antonis Xylouris has been releasing music under the name Psarantonis since the mid-'60s – lots of music. The Cretan lyra player is renowned for the way in which he plays the old instrument, but he is also well skilled on a number of other traditional stringed instruments. His last shows in Australia as a part of the All Tomorrow's Parties event were very memorable and when he plays Golden Plains with The Dirty Three's Jim White on drums it's going to blow minds.
NAYSAYER & GILSUN:
You may have been lucky enough to catch Naysayer & Gilsun at any number of sweet parties over the past few years and it's likely that they are the very reason the party was so sweet. A respect and love of pop music from throughout the ages and enough excited energy to make you nervous come together to make this duo one of the most exciting audio-visual acts around. Hell, even Diplo loves them. They make a welcome return in 2013.
SIXFTHICK:
Two Brisbane brothers out the front of a slick and powerful rock'n'roll band sounds like such a drab, innocuous kind of an affair. SixFtHick is essentially the opposite of that. Violent, lewd, funny, gross, energetic, scary and downright fucking awesome, they are one of the best live bands in the country and, even if you don't go for the schtick they pervade (why not?), then the gritty, twangy, cane-punk music should be enough to have you captivated.
MULATU ASTATKE:
A true legend of Ethiopian music, Mulatu Astatke is credited with some of the most important developments in his country's musical landscape and is considered to be the father of Ethio-Jazz. His predominantly instrumental jams from the 1970s are some of the finest cuts of groove and funk you're likely to hear; slick but with enough swagger and grit to make them truly fascinating pieces of music. Another good reason to have some comfortable dancing shoes on hand for Golden Plains 2013.
DICK DIVER:
One of the many Melbourne acts to have really themselves up over the past year or so, Dick Diver ought to still be incredibly stoked with their fantastic New Start Again album of last year. It was a charming collection of slack tunes that tended to continue getting better with every listen. There's something about the environment of the Golden Plains festival that feels like it will be the perfect place to sit back and let the tales of Dick Diver wash over you. We'll see…
OPOSSOM:
One of the excellent projects that has come from the ashes of the demise of The Mint Chicks, OPOSSOM is the new project from that band's frontman Kody Nielson. The Auckland based psych-pop group released Electric Hawaii earlier this year and have been picking up a fair amount of good vibes from those who have listened to it. Likewise their live show has been the subject to praise as well. You'll see why in March.
NO ZU:
It's honestly quite difficult to communicate what it is about No Zu that makes them so intriguing, you really have to experience it for yourself. You can do that right now with their debut LP Life, a slice of indie-funk that just lends itself to fine party vibes. It's a good thing then that Golden Plains is pretty much the ultimate place to let those party vibes run free.
REDD KROSS:
They're absolute masters of hardcore punk and power pop and with this year's Researching The Blues – their first record in 15 years – Redd Kross managed to prove to us that they still most definitely have what it takes to be considered a truly great rock'n'roll band. They were here for Dig It Up! earlier in the year and must have had a good time because they're coming back less than a year later to make their first appearance at the Meredith event.
