Cybele Malinowski presents Vacancy show

13 April 2012 | 12:36 pm | Daniel Crichton Rouse

"A nostalgic homage to the 20th Century life vanishing before our eyes."

Sydney-based photographer Cybele Malinowski, a regular name across Street Press Australia's titles, will launch her new solo exhibition Vacancy with a one-off installation piece - a recreated motel room, in which you'll be able to peer through windows, watching a lone traveller as she dress and undress, with footage from Malinowski's travels illuminating her body.

"This solo show offers a nostalgic homage to the 20th Century life vanishing before our eyes, featuring a collection of snapshots from travels on the lost highways of the USA and Australia including Lynchian scenes of dreamy outer-suburban abandonment," Malinowski says.

Vacancy opens at Gaffa Gallery, Sydney Thursday 3 May (6pm) and runs to Monday 14. If you miss the opening night installation, a video of the performance will be available top watch at the gallery from Sunday 5 May.
