Cut Copy ProfileMelburnian electro veterans Cut Copy are set to commemorate the town from whence they came with a 19-track compilation album celebrating a broad range of new and exclusive cuts from some of Melbourne's finest underground dance-music/club acts.
Cut Copy Presents: Oceans Apart, which was mixed with the loving care of the band themselves, hits digital and physical stores on Tuesday, November 11, preceding the release of two vinyl compilation-highlight EPs a week later, on November 18. The compilation features work from the likes of Andras & Oscar, Roland Tings, World's End Press, and NO ZU, who lent Raw Vis Vision to the grab-bag of goodies. Get amongst it below:
As frontman Dan Whitford explained in a statement about the compilation, the impetus to put together Oceans Apart “came from a late-night conversation in a Melbourne club with a friend of mine. As we excitedly shouted over the noise of the dance floor, one of us said, ‘The dance scene in Melbourne has gotten so interesting over the past few years — someone should really document this!’
“We looked at each other knowingly, and from that moment, the idea for Oceans Apart was born."
That's not where it ends, though — Cut Copy will be celebrating the release of the compilation during Melbourne Music Week, on Saturday, November 15. Special guests for the night include all the contributing acts mentioned above, so it's already bound to be a party on face value alone, let alone given the inherent sense of jubilation behind its raison d'etre.
