Taking time after Bluesfest to treat fans to some sideshows, American rockers Counting Crows have announced that their opening act for their seven-date schedule – including sold out shows in Sydney and Melbourne – will be Melbourne musician Jackson McLaren.

The 21-year-old singer-songwriter has recently released his five track EP Walk Along The Wire, gaining a reputation as a rare, contemplative and honest musician, fitting perfectly with the values Counting Crows have built their career on.

Jackon McLaren will support solo in the Adelaide and Perth shows, with his band The Triple Threat jumping on board for the ride through Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney.

They join the 1991-formed Grammy and Oscar nominated rock band who have sold more than 20 million albums worldwide, including their 1993 seven-times-platinum debut record August And Everything After, featuring smash hit Mr Jones.

Counting Crows' 2012 record Underwater Sunshine (Or What We Did On Our Summer Vacation) is the band's first album in more than four years and features 15 covers of lesser-known tunes from the '60s to now, including versions of Bob Dylan, Gram Parsons and Big Star.
