Charmayne Maxwell, of Brownstone fame, has died

One of the members of '90s American R&B group Brownstone, Charmayne Maxwell, has died, with conflicting reports emerging on the circumstances surrounding her death.

TMZ initially reported the news earlier today, alleging the singer died after a freak fall in her home in Denmark. While the cause of death has yet to be confirmed by representatives for Maxwell or her family, some other media outlets have reported rumours of suicide.

According to Billboard (via Twitter), Maxwell's brother Brandon has denied those rumours, posting: "Bad things happened (sic) to the most innocent people. My sister died in the most terrible way and I'm in so much pain right now."

Maxwell's Brownstone bandmate paid tribute to the singer through social media earlier today.

Brownstone achieved moderate success in the '90s, mostly through their hit single If You Love Me, which was nominated for a Grammy in 1995. Maxwell was one of the founding members of the group, which had a few line-up changes over the years. They were signed to Michael Jackson's MMJ Music record label, releasing two studio albums.

Maxwell was married to Danish music producer Carsten Soulshock and had one son.
