Melbourne’s Cherry Bar is the place to be if you love Avenged Sevenfold.

From today until the American heavy metal band’s show at Rod Laver Arena (Tuesday, 20 October), the venue is hosting an “officially unmissable takeover.”

Punters who head to the bar can take a photo beside a custom deathbat mural painted by local artist Ling – there’s another wall mural on 57 Bourke St, if you’re spending time in the city – and enjoy Avenged Lager on tap all weekend.

Plus, ticket holders can access a free schooner of Avenged Lager on show day; just present your ticket at the door. Right now, that free schooner is for pre-show, but there’s scope to extend to post-show if drinks are still available.

Cherry Bar is also hosting an after party, which has free entry and will have the venue’s DJs spinning tunes until morning. Avenged Sevenfold’s music will be blasting in the bar throughout the weekend.

In Sydney, the band hosted a tattoo pop-up experience with renowned tattoo artist Lauren Winzer, who was booked out all day. Clearly, demand is high for Avenged Sevenfold’s current tour.

After twelve long years, Avenged Sevenfold commence their long-awaited Australian tour at Sydney’s Afterpay Arena (formerly known as Qudos Bank Arena) tonight. The shows continue at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre on Sunday, 18 October, Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena on Tuesday, 20 October, and conclude at Auckland’s Spark Arena on Friday, 23 October.

The American heavy metal icons are bringing a star-studded roster of special guests with them: American progressive rock band Coheed and Cambria, and Melbourne’s own alt-metal outfit, Thornhill, will open the shows.

You can find tickets to the shows on the Live Nation Australia and New Zealand websites.

Avenged Sevenfold last performed in Australia in March 2014, co-headlining Soundwave Festival alongside Green Day. In addition to their Soundwave performances, the band played sideshows at Melbourne’s Festival Hall and Sydney’s Luna Park in support of their 2013 album, Hail to the King.

Since their last visit to Australia, the band has released two more albums: 2016’s The Stage and 2023’s Life Is But a Dream…, the latter of which they’re continuing to promote. Earlier this year, they dropped the experimental EP STATICA.
