Sydney is gearing up for an exciting showcase this October as hip hop legend Chance The Rapper takes centre stage at South by Southwest Sydney 2023.

Chance The Rapper, known for tracks like Juke Jam (feat. Justin Bieber & Towkio) and Cocoa Butter Kisses, is set to join the global community of artists commemorating 50 years of Hip Hop.

Chance’s music has not only resonated worldwide but has also had a profound impact on his hometown of Chicago's South Side, with President Barack Obama once describing him as an "outstanding role model".

The rapper is also a huge advocate for rising talent and continues to pave the way for the next generation of creative leaders through his SocialWorks foundation and the Black Star Line Festival, which travels across the globe.

Speaking about the upcoming event, Chance The Rapper stated, "As we celebrate 50 years of Hip Hop in 2023, I'm reminded of the transformative power this culture has had, not just on the world stage, but on the streets of Chicago's South Side.”

“Hip-hop has provided a rhythm to our stories and a canvas for our creativity. I’m really looking forward to joining SXSW Sydney as a speaker to expound upon Hip Hop’s transcendent legacy."

Adding to the excitement, Minister for Jobs and Tourism, Minister for the Arts, and Minister for Music and the Night-time Economy, John Graham, said, "Hip hop is part of the creative fabric that makes up the music community here in NSW. As the state’s first Minister for Music, I am excited to hear the conversation on the future of music and hip hop as we celebrate 50 years."

SXSW will take place in the heart of Sydney, and will see over 1,000 events across various creative industries such as Tech and Innovation, Games, Music, Screen, and Culture.
