More Courtney Barnett More Courtney Barnett

There are many different ways to tell, as a public figure, when you might be starting to "make it", in the real sense of the phrase. It could be that someone shows you the tattoo they got of your band's logo, or maybe they send you realistic and slightly creepy portraits, or maybe they embroider your lyrics onto underpants.

That's what Canadian university student and freelance designer Becca Howes did with Courtney Barnett recently, using a school-assigned experimental typography project as a reason to show the Aussie songstress a bit of love by embroidering her lyric, "It's a Monday, it's so mundane," in a couple of different styles on two pairs of underpants.

It would seem the industrious Ms Howes has something of a penchant for the song from which that line is taken, Barnett's 2013 single Avant Gardener, having previously applied her embroidery skills and love of clever lyricism to a pillowcase as a water-tester, which consequently got Barnett's attention on Tumblr - much to Howe's excitement - which features another (slightly misquoted) lyric (in which "in bed" is replaced with "at home" - but the gist remains).

If you're interested in seeing Courtney a different kind of Down Under, you'll be glad to know she's returning to the great southern land in May for a handful of headline shows in support of forthcoming debut full-length Sometimes I Sit And Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit, the recent single from which — Pedestrian At Best — has generated wide acclaim.
