Indie rock band Bloc Party have announced they will go on an indefinite hiatus following their immediate touring schedule and releasing a new EP.

Guitarist Russell Lissack has told Postmedia News at a recent music festival in Toronto "Definitely after we finish the festivals in the summer we’ll be taking some time off. At least six months, maybe a year maybe two years, it’s hard to say ... Once we start taking time off people start doing their own thing. So once people start doing things then you’ll start naturally extending how long we spend apart."

It's not the first time the British four-piece have announced time off. The band went on hiatus back in 2009 after the release of third album 'Intimacy', before returning in 2012 with follow-up 'Four'. The band's hiatus will commence following their headline set at this year's Latitude Festival in the UK on July 19, and the release of an EP of new material.
