The eclectic singer-songwriter makes a return to the familiar for his latest jaunt

More Ben Lee More Ben Lee

A little more than a year since young veteran musician Ben Lee challenged musical palettes with the sense-bending Ayahuasca: Welcome to the Work, fans of the man's earlier work can rest assured a return to the comforting sounds of yore is imminent.

In tandem with an open letter posted to Facebook recently, Lee has announced that he'll be headed to Sydney and Melbourne this month and next to preview tracks from his next album, Love Is The Great Rebellion, of which he writes, “For those of you for whom my forays into the impressionistic psychedelia of my last album Ayahuasca: Welcome to the Work was a little hard to grasp, you may be pleased to know that this new album is full of (gasp) pop songs! With choruses!”

The album will be the 35-year-old's tenth full-length, and Lee has conscripted the talents of guitarist Dave Rogers and keyboardist Sophie Koh to aid in realising the album's vision in the flesh for these shows.

Support for the shows comes in the form of Voice third runner-up Danny Ross, a singer-guitarist who openly cites Lee as one of his musical heroes and who last year released his positively received debut LP, As The Crow Flies. He's spent the majority of 2014 holed up in Melbourne refining his recording process, so will be well and truly ready to show his swiftly maturing compositions when it comes time to perform.

Lee will also perform alongside names such as Clare Bowditch and US five-piece The Exchange at the forthcoming Festival Of Voices in Hobart on July 5.
