Bell Shakespeare Have Revealed Their 2020 Season

With two modern interpretations of Shakespearean classics.

Bell Shakespeare have unveiled their 2020 30th anniversary season, reinventing two of Shakespeare's most loved plays for modern audiences.

The mainstage season is just part of the the company's program, which includes outreach and education programs. 

The season opens with classic tragedy Hamlet in Sydney in February, before the show tours to Canberra and Melbourne in April. Hamlet was the first production staged by the Bell Shakespeare in 1990. 

Bell Shakespeare Artistic Director Peter Evans will direct the gender-bending production, set in Denmark in the '60s, featuring Harriet Gordon-Anderson (The Miser) as Hamlet. 

The Comedy Of Errors will undertake a four-month national tour to 28 venues, starting in Melbourne in July before finishing up in Sydney in October. 

Long-time Bell collaborator Janine Watson directs the slapstick comedy, featuring Julia Billington (Janet King).

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the company, a special event for season subscribers, One Man In His Time: John Bell And Shakespeare, will also see company founder John Bell share stories from his life, and about his love of the bard's work.
