"I simply got pissed off at the end when I found out it was pay to play and made the decision to bail."

Melbourne-based indie-rock outfit HeavyHeads have apologised to local live music venue Grumpy's after the promoters slammed the band for skipping out on a bar tab on Sunday.

Taking to Facebook after Grumpy's Sunday Rock Revival event (which HeavyHeads performed at), the venue called out the group.

"Hey HeavyHeads, thanks heaps for bailing on your TAB at the bar yesterday," the post reads.

"I know you didn't forget because I spoke to you moments before you all hopped in your ride and peeled off.

"This was a real dog act and I sincerely hope there's some shitty karma in your future."

Shortly after, HeavyHeads vocalist Joseph Dante admitted to the act and apologised, saying that the decision to bail on the bar tab came after the band found out the gig was a "pay to play" situation.

"I'm not here to make any elaborate excuses, I simply got pissed off at the end when I found out it was pay to play and made the decision to bail," Dante said.

"It was a dick move and I'm here to offer my apologies and to ask the venue let us know how much it is and I'll get the money to you. Like I said, this was my bar tab and my decision to bail, so the blame falls solely on me."

Though the venue thanked Dante for the apology and offered to cover the cost of the tab "as a sign of good faith", the frontman insisted that he would be happy to pay the bill.

"I genuinely feel awful about it, it ain't something I do and I don't really wanna be that guy, just got a mood on and bailed like a twat didn't I!? Just let me know how much and we'll sort out the cash or some way of paying."
