Australian artists Briggs and Archie Roach win Australian Book Industry awards.
Australian favourites Briggs and Archie Roach have both picked up big wins at last night's Australian Book Industry Awards (ABIAs).
Streamed live at Sydney's Carriageworks, hip hop artist Briggs took out the Children's Picture Book of the Year (ages 0-6) category with 2020-released Our Home, Our Heartbeat - "a celebration of past and present Indigenous legends, as well as emerging generations, and at its heart honours the oldest continuous culture on earth".
Meanwhile ARIA Hall of Fame legend Archie Roach was awarded the Audio Book of the Year for his memoir Tell Me Why: The Story Of My Life And My Music.
The win comes just months after Roach took out the Indigenous Writing category at the Victorian Premier’s Literary Awards for the book, which has been described as an “intimate, moving and often shocking memoir” that tells the story of an "extraordinary odyssey through love and heartbreak, family and community, survival and renewal – and the healing power of music”.
The 2021 ABIAs featured a number of notable presenters, including Matthew McConaughey, Matt Okine, Yumi Stynes, Nat's What I Reckon and Courtney Act.
