Iconic Naarm/Melbourne rock exports Amyl And The Sniffers are gearing up to release their highly-anticipated third album Cartoon Darkness in just a couple of weeks, with a hometown listening party set to accompany its arrival.

The event takes place at Soundmerch in Collingwood, who have themselves been longtime supports of the band. Kicking off at 5pm on Thursday, October 24th, the release-day eve happening will feature the new record previewed in full alongside a few extras as well.

Alongside free Amyl And The Sniffers tattoos (provided on a first-come, first-serve basis), the good folks at Blackhearts & Sparrows will be slinging free drinks, while there will also be special giveaways, including signed test pressings of the new record.

Despite the presence of free drinks and tattoos, the event is all ages, though those under the age of 18 are obviously restricted from the adult gear.

Amyl And The Sniffers returned to our ears in May with the release of single U Should Not Be Doing That, their first new single since the ARIA Award-winning 2021 record, Comfort To Me. The group detailed the impending release of Cartoon Darkness back in August.

Speaking of the record’s content, singer Amy Taylor noted it was inspired by “climate crisis, war, AI, tiptoeing on the eggshells of politics, and people feeling like they're helping by having a voice online when we’re all just feeding the data beast of Big Tech, our modern-day god.”

“It’s about the fact that our generation is spoon-fed information,” she added. “We look like adults, but we’re children forever cocooned in a shell. We’re all passively gulping up distractions that don’t even cause pleasure, sensation or joy; they just cause numbness.”

As Taylor explained, the album sees her and her bandmates “driving headfirst into the unknown, into this looming sketch of the future that feels terrible but doesn’t even exist yet—a childlike darkness.

“I don’t want to meet the devil halfway and mourn what we have right now,” she continued. “The future is cartoon, the prescription is dark, but it's novelty. It's just a joke. It's fun.”

Amyl And The Sniffers’ Cartoon Darkness is released on Friday, October 25th, with pre-orders/pre-saves available now.
