'This will help cement Adelaide as one of the most liveable cities in the world.'

A $700 million multipurpose indoor city arena is on the cards for Adelaide.

The promise of a new arena, currently named “Riverbank Arena”, comes from the Liberal State Government ahead of the 2022 election.

The proposed venue from South Australian Premier Steven Marshall would have a capacity of 15,000 for live entertainment and would be built west of the Morphett Street Bridge.

“This project will create jobs for South Australians and help cement Adelaide as one of the most liveable cities in the world,” Marshall said.

“Our investment will take recent government and private investment in entertainment and convention infrastructure along Adelaide’s riverbank precinct to more than $2 billion.”

The State Government has said that the arena would replace Adelaide Entertainment Centre (which has a total capacity of 11,300), but, as ABC notes, there’s no confirmation as to whether or not the existing venue would be sold off to developers.
