The local percussionist has taken his five-minute drum-chronology trick to the masses in NYC
Well, Kye Smith has done it again.
You might remember the talented Australian drummer as the guy who crammed every Blink-182 album into an insane five-minute jam. Or as the guy who condensed The Living End's career into an insane five-minute jam. Or as the guy who whittled Nirvana's catalogue into an insane five-minute jam, or any of his other five-minute-long drum chronologies. Or as Frenzal Rhomb's fill-in drummer.
Whatever; you know him.
If you couldn't tell, Smith has developed something of a niche for himself as being the guy who can distill arguably anyone's musical output into sweet, snappy, stupidly impressive 300-second blocks.

But he's taken the exercise beyond the studio — with a rendition of his 2015 piece canvassing the epic oeuvre of The Beatles — to perform in front of a packed crowd during halftime at an NBA game between the New York Knicks and Washington Wizards at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Psh, no big deal.
Originally scheduled for early last year, the halftime show appearance was pushed back until last night (US time) for undisclosed reasons. However, Smith finally got his moment to shine at the Knicks/Wizards game, and it's pretty clear from the courtside video below that he absolutely knocked it out of the park.
(That's baseball, but if we'd said it was a "slam dunk", you would have groaned. You know you would have.)
Watch Smith tear through songs from across The Beatles vast chronology below (it appears there was an intention for it to be a live feed, although he says another view will be coming tomorrow), or see the original here.
Oh, also, the Wizards beat the Knicks, besting the home team 113-110. Just thought you'd like to know for closure's sake.
