Jane Gazzo has been named the new General Manager of the Melbourne-based and operated Student Youth Network Inc., better known as SYN Media. Her appointment to the role is effective immediately.
The youth-run not-for-profit organisation offers media training and broadcasting opportunities for young people in Melbourne. SYN Media provides a home for enthusiastic creative volunteers aged between 13 and 25 to produce and operate a radio station broadcast (SYN Radio). Additional music-related work is featured online, in print, and on television.
Last week, Gazzo posted on her LinkedIn to “SYN alumni and former volunteers and lovers of youth-led media opportunities” to support the radio station’s Radiothon, which has a fundraising target of $20,000. The fundraiser aims to “support training, equipment, and youth-led programming for the year ahead.”
Gazzo has supported SYN for years, including in an interview with One Of One back in 2015. Sharing her enthusiasm for the youth-led project, which has led to her discovering music, Gazzo said, “There’s a Melbourne school student radio station called SYN, which I listen to a lot. It’s great to hear young people giving radio a go.”
So, it’s fair to say that with her landing the role of General Manager of SYN Media, Gazzo has come full circle and will continue to support local music and young creatives in Victoria. And with her experience at triple j, Channel [V], BBC Radio 6 Music, Capital FM, Active Time Vision, and Triple M, she’s one of the most recognised voices on radio and Australian media.
She announced her new role on Facebook, where she wrote: “It’s a true honour to lead an organisation that has championed the next generation of media makers for over two decades.

“My own career started as a teenager in community radio, and I have been an avid fan and listener of SYN for a long time. I’m incredibly excited to work with the next generation of talented young people at SYN and help shape the future of Australian media.”
SYN Chair Jake Stevens added, “Jane’s appointment marks an exciting new chapter for SYN, as it continues its mission to provide hands-on training, access to industry pathways, and an inclusive broadcasting platform for young people looking to cut their teeth in media production.
“Jane brings to SYN a rare mix of authentic leadership, extensive media industry experience and creative vision. As we approach our 23rd year, Jane’s leadership will be invaluable to strengthening the organisation’s reach, reputation, and long-term impact for our community of volunteers and listeners.”
