Fremantle-based music venue The Palace Arcade – also known for its retro games, craft beverages, and nostalgic vibes – will close its doors at the end of the month, citing the end of its lease, “ongoing noise complaints,” and “the threat of some huge fines.”

Business owners also referenced the inability to host live music events as another important reason for not renewing the lease.

The space was opened just five years ago on 96 High Street, and has consistently offered something different to its punters (and $12 pizzas). The sad news was revealed on the venue’s social media pages on Monday (20 October).

Venue owners shared a multi-coloured photo with the words “Thank you, Freo” and announced that the final night of hospitality will be on Monday, 27 October, in the caption.

“After a wonderful five years in the port city, and with our lease recently coming to an end, we’ve made the difficult decision not to renew — it’s time for us to move on,” the notice began.

The post continued, “Due to ongoing noise complaints from our neighbours and the threat of some huge fines, we’ve been unable to host our much-loved music events. Without those, it just didn’t feel right to commit to another five years on High Street.

“From the whole team at Palace, we want to sincerely thank all our amazing guests, the terrific staff who’ve been part of the journey, and the incredible suppliers who kept the beers flowing — thank you for being part of our story in Freo!

“We’re still open until Sunday 26th with a final hospo night on Monday 27th - we’d love to see you for one last drink, slice & game of Donkey Kong 🦍.”

The Palace Arcade’s other venues, located in the Perth neighbourhoods of Northbridge and Victoria Park, will remain open.
