Sydney revellers will soon be able to bask in the greatness of a new late-night joint, who will bring fried chicken, live music and 90s skater-grunge aesthetic to the CBD.

Bondi’s go-to dive bar Chuck Trailer’s will expand further into the city this year with a second venue to open its doors in Sydney’s CBD in March.
Chuck Trailer’s first launched in Bondi in December 2021. With a desire to bring inner west dive bars to the Eastern suburbs, friends and co-owners Ben Campbell and Brendan Darcy combined their shared experience working in bars across the UK and Australia to birth Chuck Trailer’s.
Speaking on the expansion of Chuck’s to the city, Campbell and Darcy said:
“Bondi always felt a little too polished for us, so Chuck’s was mostly opened for ourselves, it turns out a little skate rock and a dance on the bar top was what everyone else needed too. We’re just doing a public service and spreading our wings to the poor folks in the city who have been missing out the past 4 years.”
Coined as the “best chicken in Bondi” by local revellers, the bar will be bringing its beloved burgers, wings, and strong whiskey menu to York Street in the heart of the CBD. Boasting two floors, the upstairs will serve up only the finest chooks and booze to patrons until the early hours of the morning, while the basement pumps out electrifying live music performances every week.
Originally inspired by Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, the city edition of Chuck’s will feature murals from artists Steen Jones and Sindy Sinn, with walls covered with cutouts from the iconic American skateboarding publication Thrasher Magazine. Truck-beds will be converted into booths for punters to sit, and in the basement, a concrete half pipe will make the live stage.

“This is our first foray out of Bondi, so it was important for us to pull out all the stops to make our stamp in the big smoke,” they said. “We needed to stay true to the brand while catering for a wider audience, I think we might just pull it off.”
Anticipating to house a maximum of 260 people, Chuck’s is the city’s answer to reviving the nightlife of the 90s, clad with late-night bites, high-energy live entertainment, grungy interior from floor to ceiling and a 6-metre backbar holding over 300 American whiskeys, exclusive disco cocktails and a variation of 16 different beers on tap.
Whether you’re looking to indulge in a bevvy or two or try out signature dishes like dry rubbed Jamaican jerk chicken or the ominous ‘Satans Sphincter’, Chuck Trailer’s is destined to be a mainstay for Sydney nightlife. Joining the ranks as a loud and proud late-night venue, Chuck Trailer’s will open from 11 AM to 2 AM from Sunday to Wednesday, and close at 4 AM from Thursday to Saturday.
To christen the new venue, Chuck Trailer’s are hosting a free pre-opening night party in the basement with music provided by Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater dedicated band BIRDMAN, on Thursday the 13th of March.
Chuck Trailer’s will officially open for business the following day on the 14th of March at 36 York Street, Sydney City 2000. You can find more information here.
