Watch Vic Mensa and Skrillex take a trip to the 'land of no-chill' in their new video

Midway through last year Apple Music reinforced their launch with a number of exclusives; numbering among them was No Chill, a surprisingly solid collaboration between rapper Vic Mensa and EDM producer Skrillex that allowed them both to shine; the OWSLA kingpin and co-producer Jahlil beats made a massive trap-infused beat and Mensa cooked up some fire lyrics: “I told Sonny warm the beat up, shit is freezing, he ain’t got no chill". 

A good seven months later, the track finally gets a visual treatment, with none other than Colin Tilley in the director’s seat – he’s the guy who was behind the awesomely cinematic videos Kendrick put out for These Walls and Alright. He’s taken a lo-fi approach to the clip, but matches the explosive energy of the track by creating a highly kinetic overall mood.

The clip, which also premiered on Apple Music (there’s speculation Apple bankrolled the making of the video too, same way they financed Drake’s Hotline Bling) finds Vic, Skrillex and a crew roaming/skateboarding the streets of Tokyo, looking to stir shit up. There’s a certain amount of documentary style footage too, as the clip profiles the neo-punk style of young Tokyo trendsetters as the video’s Japanese narrator (who refers to Tokyo as the 'land of no-chill' prefaces, "This is the underworld of Tokyo. No rules, all about self expression," before making light of the city’s liveliness: you see iconic destinations Robot Restaurant, Shibuya, Rockaholic Music Bar, 354 Club, Trump Room and more during the course of the clip, and It seems “lo-fi Tokyo” is the video clip location of choice for rappers at the moment – it wasn’t all that long ago A$AP Rocky was wandering the Tokyo streets in his L$D clip. Mensa, who will be in Australia soon to play the Groovin’ the Moo festivals around the country, has been putting in work on his debut album Traffic, and all eyes are sure to be on the Kanye West co-signed rapper when it drops later this year on bigtime rap major label Roc Nation. You can hear his latest, Danger, that was debuted at the Yeezy Season 3 show/The Life of Pablo Listening Party in New York recently. Yeezy previously recruited Mensa and Sia for live performances of the track Wolves, but later replaced Mensa with Frank Ocean for the release of The Life of Pablo album.
