The Tin Shed Distillery in Nairne, opening in late November, somehow manages to toe the line between being an intimate venue and a grand space - not an easy feat, to be sure.
On the far edge of Old Princes Highway, the Tin Shed is stark and black against the surrounding hills, scenic and serene. The ranges of whisky on offer are nectar-like - sweet, heady, and robust - and the food, which bears an emphasis on South Australian produce, is paired perfectly.

The company commenced distilling in 2013, and is excited to welcome punters new and old to Nairne. But this is not merely a site with a sole focus on wining and dining - what is exciting about this soon-to-be open-to-the-public venue is that there will be a strong emphasis on live music.
The outdoor dining space at the Nairne Tin Shed is expansive and picturesque, but it is inside where local music can be truly appreciated. The smoky, warmly-lit atmosphere so easily lends itself to guitar-heavy folk tunes.
Once open, the Tin Shed Distilling Co plans to host four gigs a week - Friday evening, Saturday afternoon, Saturday evening, and Sunday late afternoon - promising a merry, peaty weekend. The focus will be on local singer-songwriters who play music in the vein of contemporary folk and blues. Local bands who perform original music will be booked for special events.
True to its community-centric nature, the Tin Shed Distilling Co is excited to be able to support young and emerging artists. The team specify that they will be sure to provide a full PA, stage, and lighting - and are keen to live up to their responsibility as “one of the few dedicated live music venues in the Adelaide Hills.” The space will also be open later on Friday and Saturday nights, allowing for more of a vibrant nightlife energy for the locals.
Some artists that the venue is keen to feature include Steve Gower, Jason McKell, Jimmybay, SueDan, and Trav Collins.
Once the venue is open in November, it will definitely be one to watch out for - for music-goers and musicians alike (especially those with a penchant for a hearty tumbler of whisky).
