Each week, The Music sifts through streaming services, our inboxes, and chats with each other to come up with ten new songs to feature on our weekly updated playlist, The Music’s Friday Finds: The Week’s Best New Music.
The playlist is updated on Spotify and Apple Music and includes the hottest songs from Australia and internationally. This week, we’ve gathered new songs from The Avalanches (featuring Karen O), Charli xcx, The Strokes, Body Type, Natalie Imbruglia, and more.

The Avalanches – Blue Shadows (feat. Karen O)
This energetic track finds The Avalanches joining forces with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Karen O for the second time—she featured on Dial D for Devotion from the Aussie group’s 2020 album, We Will Always Love You. As The Avalanches’ Robbie Chater explains, Karen O’s performance is remarkable, “achingly forlorn and somehow sounds as if it always existed as a song.”
Charli xcx – Camera
With a funky beat and punchy guitars, it’s easy to assume that Charli xcx’s Camera is a bright, happy song. But there’s an edge of despair as the brat star ponders if she still wants a music career, while the fresh production is inspired.
C.O.F.F.I.N – Think Bad
C.O.F.F.I.N have a new album on the way, and new single Think Bad finds them digging deeper into rock and roll than ever before.

Lead singer Ben Portnoy shared, “It's about using hard thoughts as a compass, reminding yourself that not everything that feels good is good for you, while at the same time, understanding that the combined weight of cynicism and reckless behaviour can make the greatest losses.”
Lizzy McAlpine – The light in the painting
The light in the painting, the first single from Lizzy McAlpine’s forthcoming album, Angel, is a tender, minimalist number that slowly unveils an arrangement featuring acoustic guitar and keys. McAlpine says the track was written about “the euphoric beginning of a new connection.”
Body Type – Eye Is A Mouth Is A Face
Jagged guitars inform Eye Is A Mouth Is A Face, a mega highlight from Body Type’s just-released new album, Tally. The first song to be written collaboratively, featuring input from each band member, the enthralling cut provides “another look into the uncanny lives of us.”
Jem Cassar-Daley – All I’m Thinking About
Jem Cassar-Daley stretches her signature sound and songwriting style to new heights on All I’m Thinking About, the latest single from her upcoming debut album, tattoos used to come off in the pool.
“This song was inspired by finding out about your partner’s ex and wanting to know more about them,” she explained. “Wondering how and why they broke up, going for a little stalk of their insta and developing a bit of an obsession.”
The Strokes – Psycho Shit
Psycho Shit is a song of contrasts. Fittingly, it’s the opener of The Strokes’ new album, Reality Awaits, and it has a slow-burning, eerie build-up that explodes into a cathartic crash—certainly one of the most unique songs in the band’s catalogue.
Natalie Imbruglia – Just Drive
Just Drive is the latest number to arrive ahead of Natalie Imbruglia’s upcoming album, Algorithm, and calls to mind a classic pop-forward breakup anthem: Robyn’s Dancing on my Own. “I wrote ‘Just Drive’ about a breakup, and about something I think a lot of us do, which is hiding how we feel to make other people feel better,” Imbruglia said.
“Sometimes you’d rather go through it on your own, as hard as that is. You love the other person so much, you don’t want to put them through it too.”
Odette – AAAH!
Odette has returned with AAAH!, her first taste of new music since 2024. The track captures feelings of anxiety and finding hope, with the mission statement that life is hard, but you’re stronger than you could imagine.
“AAAH! Is a cry to the universe,” she explained. “Is anyone even there? I don’t drink alcohol anymore; I’m not a raging bitch most of the time now, so surely something must prevail. Surely this Earth isn’t just headed towards oblivion at the hands of billionaires who don’t really mind the impacts. This song is existential fear and a lot of hope. We are more powerful than we think.”
Chase & Status – Disgruntled feat. J Hus & Irah
UK drum and bass outfit Chase & Status are back with Disgruntled, teaming up with one of the UK's most influential voices, J Hus, alongside regular collaborator Irah. Like many of the group’s finest tracks, Disgruntled effortlessly blurs the lines between rave, rap, soundsystem culture and rock.
