"Our drummer miraculously nailed his parts running on a bottle of Southern Comfort and 46 minutes sleep."
Initially forming as a three-piece in 2014, The Crookeds morphed their reggae vibes by adding another guitarist in 2015 "to beef up the sound and head in a more rock direction", explains bassist Rick Carroll. Carroll jokes that he decided to follow music after "the devil came to me in my sleep when I was nine and I sold him my soul. I haven't really got my end of the bargain yet, but I'm sure it's gonna happen real soon!"
On their new single Love, Carroll explains that it came together "very naturally". "Our lead guitarist Jake came to rehearsals one night about six months ago with the main riff and chorus chords of the song. We all really dug it, so we collectively pieced the song together that night. We recorded it in late 2016 at Debasement Studios with Dan Murtagh. After hearing some pretty cool feedback from fans and friends, we knew it needed to be recorded ASAP and recorded well. We definitely aren't unhappy with the result from our main man Dan!"
The biggest challenges they faced during recording included "trashing the studio the day before and passing out under the mixing desk (our drummer miraculously nailed his parts running on a bottle of Southern Comfort and 46 minutes sleep). [Plus] trying to chew into whole lemons growing at the back of the studio while being extremely hung over, especially for our vocalist Sonny."
