Squid Game Contestants Threaten To Sue Over Injuries & Conditions

Two contestants on the new Netflix reality series Squid Game: The Challenge have threatened legal action against the streaming giant, claiming that they experienced injuries while the show was filmed in Bedford in the UK.

The unnamed individuals claimed that they had suffered from hypothermia and nerve damage and solicited the help of British personal injury lawyers Express Solicitors.

According to a new Deadline report, the lawyers have sent letters of their clients’ claims to Squid Game: The Challenge co-producers Studio Lambert and Netflix.

“Contestants thought they were taking part in something fun, and those injured did not expect to suffer as they did,” Daniel Slade, CEO of Express Solicitors, told Deadline. “Now they have been left with injuries after spending time being stuck in painful stress positions in cold temperatures.”

A spokesperson for Squid Game: The Challenge commented, “No lawsuit has been filed by any of the Squid Game contestants. We take the welfare of our contestants extremely seriously.”

Squid Game: The Challenge premiered on Netflix on Wednesday (22 November). The series, based on the fictional South Korean hit, thankfully doesn't involve a matter of life or death. However, the stakes are still high, as 456 contestants vie for a prize of $4.56 million, the largest cash prize ever offered in reality TV history.

The new series follows the contestants as they face complex games, testing their limits and ability to think of their feet. The show features a blend of opportunistic alliances, cutthroat strategies, and timely betrayals, making for a nail-biting experience perfect for reality television viewers.

Hwang Dong-hyuk, the director and creator of the original Squid Game scripted series, teased some info about the reality show, including that the series will consist of 10 episodes, with intriguing titles such as Red Light, Green Light (in which the two contestants faced alleged hypothermia and nerve damage), The Man With The Umbrella, and Circle Of Trust.
