The Sydney music scene is cut-throat, ruthless and at times frivolous. If you’re not the topic of conversation in the cab ride home then there will be no Googling.
DAPPLED CITIES have been rolling up their sleeves and conquering this arena for the last decade. With a passionate following and vibrant stage presence, they’ll be riding the indie wave smoothly to shore.
Their latest album Lake Air has more cultural experience than a cashed-up British backpacker. Recorded in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Paris and Sydney it’s a surprise it’s made it back in one piece. But I guess that’s technology for you…
Cenzo Townshend (Florence & The Machine, Bloc Party, U2) mixed Dappled Cities lead single, Run With The Wind, which has gained significant airtime. ‘The Leopard’ is another stand out track, embracing a folk-y flavour coupled with some magical harmonies and floor-stomping percussion.

‘Icecubes’ explores a more electro-pop sound, channelling Passion Pit and a slightly less psychedelic MGMT. Ultimately though, the best track on the album is the title track. Displaying a softer melody with one of those ‘driving song catchy’ choruses.
Set to be released on August 3rd, their new album embodies a happy-go-lucky attitude mixed with heartfelt sentiment and charisma. Vocalist and guitarist, Tim Derricourt sees Lake Air as more than just a record but as a representation of the bands persona. Telling Music Feeds that “It’s everything we’ve ever been… It’s got experimentation, wildness and melody. It gives me the sense that I get every now and again that we could keep doing this for another 20 years – or more.”
