Zach from NZ, is owner, long time record collector and passionate music fan. We also share the space with wife Annie, and her coffee bar, RRIOT House.

When and why did the store open?
We opened in May 2016 as an idea to expand an online store, into a bricks and mortar store.
What do your customers most know you for?
Firstly, good vibes and customer service, secondly for knowledge and dedication to sourcing interesting titles around the world, in particular, Japanese and NZ music.

What is the best thing about running a record store in 2025?
Getting to introduce new vinyl collectors to this addictive world. I love when we are the first ever vinyl purchase instore! Also with everyone's access to the internet, we get more obscure and worldwide requests which keeps the store stock varied and exciting. We have a varied demographic now also which is a great change from years past. As records become the norm, we see people stopping by to check out latest releases or find something new, and they don't have to be a collector.
What is the hardest thing about running a record store in 2025?
As the world heads into financial difficulties, records seem to be a non essential purchase so we feel the heat of those moments quicker than some. With the access to the internet and people's acceptance of online shopping, the loyalties we once had, have slowly eroded away a little. Also people now purchase just to flip certain titles which has driven the overall cost up. I guess with the popularity, labels, manufacturers and distribution have now dictate these absurd prices and blame it on some necessary 'increase' somewhere!
