If you want to support live music venues with their continued struggle against ' the man' buy a brick for Pure Pop Records.

The mantra of the indie music community as we know it is ‘support your local music scene’, and god damn local Australian music scenes need the support right now.

Although initiatives like Record Store Day have gone a long way to promote this mantra, our local scene needs our help more than just one day a year. And right now, Pure Pop Records need our help.

Pure Pop Records are located in the Melbourne suburb of St Kilda. After their neighbor made noise complaints about their gigs in their courtyard, Pure Pop have been forced to make some expensive changes, including some seriously pricey soundproofing. In order for them to achieve these changes and keep live music going they have adopted the Annandale inspired, Buy A Brick scheme.

Pure Pop isn’t asking for a bail out or a lifeline. It doesn’t cost much to buy a brick and who doesn’t want to see their name immortalised on a plaque and on an honour roll? Plus there’s the bonus feeling of goodness knowing that you are an awesome person that has done a good deed.

If Pure Pop Records don’t raise the money they need to instate their plans, they will cease to host any live music; another in a long line of the many already gone and the many that, without our help, will be the next to go. Don’t let one tool making complaints ruin something great. Without the support of the indie music community it won’t be long until our type of live music venues and the stores that sell the music that we love will cease to exist. We all know there’s nothing better than live music, so be an awesome person, buy a brick and help Pure Pop keep the live music alive.
