WAAXBrisbane-bred punk-tinged alt-rock luminaries WAAX have been solidly eking out their niche since taking out triple j's Unearthed slot for last year's BIGSOUND Live showcase, playing relentlessly and honing their craft with dedication as they put in the hard yards pulling together their impending debut EP.
Although that work is a little while off yet, theMusic.com.au is stoked to be able to present to you the premiere stream of WAAX's anthemic new cut I For An Eye, which was brought to life at Airlock Studios on the outskirts of the band's home city, with production work from Konstantin Kersting (Big Scary, The Belligerents, Mosman Alder) and mixing magic coming from The Grove Studios' Scott Horscroft (Silverchair, The Presets, Empire Of The Sun).
I For An Eye marks the beginning of a new era in WAAX's life together — though still a nascent concern, the band has experienced its share of tumult since inception, with a shifting line-up now having found its feet with a static roster of four. It's not unfamiliar by any stretch, though, the warm and powerful strains of frontwoman Marie DeVita still punctuating the band's rollicking tunes — distinct, effortless and essential as ever.
Expect the band to want to usher in the next chapter of this journey with as many live performances as possible; although the only concrete date we can offer at present is the band's upcoming appearance at August's Maroochy Music & Visual Arts Festival, keep your eyes on theGuide or The Music App to stay informed of when and where WAAX are likely to turn up in the flesh next. In the interim, enjoy the hell out of I For An Eye.
