Ex-Mind Over Matter emcee Smiles — now going by Smizzy — has come back after a short hiatus with the political, conceptual We Swear, his first single from his forthcoming album, The Cover.
A song about the superficiality and consumeristic culture of modern Western society, the video for We Swear features found footage pastiched together.
It also features vocals from Jinja Safari's Marcus Azon.
Of the single and video's concept, Smizzy says, "I was very calculated in balancing my focus on both males and females throughout this clip. Hence I was clear to have both an extended scene of a female doing her make up and one of a male doing his hair. When I distributed the porn scenes there is focus on both men and women equally. When there is a girl twerking, the clip straight after is a dude with his shirt off flexing etc etc.

"The clip and song both go hand in hand with highlighting the things we do to make ourselves feel beautiful, handsome, proud, happy, and safe. In reality though we're doing the opposite subconsciously."
"Take porn as an example. Most people watch porn thinking it's just a momentary indulgence to boost their enjoyment whilst 'taking care of themselves'. However what most people aren't aware of is the detrimental effects that it's actually having on our minds. As a result of being exposed to the thousands of porn videos I can take my pick of, I'm building up an unrealistic image of what intimacy or sex 'should' be like, when 9/10 times sex isn't like it is on a porn set for most people."
