Premiere: Chayse Porter - Lead Pipe Cinch

Soak up some some atmospheric alt-pop/indie rock out of Birmingham, Alabama, a day ahead of release.

Announcing his sophomore album in fine style is mischievous alt-pop and indie-rock musician Chayse Porter with his 1930s racetrack slang inspired new single Lead Pipe Cinch, out November 1 but premiering on Pilerats today.

Opening with commanding drums and mellow guitar strums, Lead Pipe Cinch soon introduces an intriguing lead electric guitar line, building to Porter’s melodic & wistful vocals that explore the perils of modern America, inspired by the song’s namesake. "Basically, a 'lead-pipe cinch' means they've got it all figured out. Y'know, it's all buttoned up or it's a sure shot," says Porter. "And I compare that to the rigged system in America, and how we're all pitted against one another."

Lead Pipe Cinch follows on from the more relaxed Rolls of 35, with both singles lifted from his forthcoming January 10 2024 album Endless / Boundless, set for release via Earth Libraries. His second album’s creative process has seen Chayse switch things up from painstakingly crafting sounds with vintage analogue gear in a studio to composing alone and on the fly.

I didn’t want to sit on an idea too long and allow the inspiration to fizzle out. It was more important for me to express myself immediately and directly, than ‘correctly,’” Porter explains.
