The prodigal duo meet their forefathers...or something like that..
This Saturday 19 March, San Cisco and Mosquito Coast are playing a couple of shows at J Shed in Fremantle - one ALL-AGES one in the arvo (info HERE), followed by an 18+ show that night (info HERE), both with fellow West Aussie champs Gunns. To mark the occassion we thought it'd be cool to get the bands to interview each other, and being the bloody legends they are, they obliged. So please enjoy one of WA's most popular young acts in San Cisco being interviewed by their heir apparents in triple j Unearthed winners Mosquito Coast:
Mosquito Coast: Conor's just turned 18, where's the best spots in Perth to go out?
Jordi: Mojos, The Local Hotel, The Oddfellow, or Miss Browns if you're looking for a relaxed beverage.
MQ: Scarlett - You've been doing a bit of DJing lately, what songs never fail to start the party?
Scarlett: Anderson Paak - Am I Wrong, Rihanna - Work and Womack & Womack - Teardrops.
MQ: How did you guys become friends with Gunns?
S: I met Jenny at Mojos a couple of years ago, and it was love at first sight! Since then we've done a couple of tours together. Jenny filled in for Nick on bass when he injured his foot. Gunns are awesome. Can't wait to play together again this weekend.
MQ: What's your favourite song to play live?
J: Run.
MQ: Who knows more lyrics to songs, over-18 crowds or under-18?
J: They are both pretty good but probably the U18.
MQ: I saw you guys back when you'd just released Rocket Ship at the Buffalo Club. Since then, what's changed in the band's dynamic?
J: I think the only thing that hasn't changed about San Cisco's band dynamic is that we are the same four members.
MQ: Scarlett, How do you feel about being asked questions about being a woman in a band?
S: I am grateful that there's now a platform for women to highlight the realities of what it's like in this, at times, very chauvinistic world of music and touring. I love being in a band with three dudes but I've definitely felt the imbalance of power on the road and at times it has been really difficult to stand up for my self or find my voice.
MQ: What's it like touring with the three boys? Naomi's going to be in a similar position.
S: It's great touring with your buddies, you get to see the world with your best friends but also very testing because you share so much time in such close proximity and that would drive anyone nuts. I think the key is to tour with people you trust and who make you feel safe.
MQ: What's the best place to scout new music in Perth?
J: I think the Bird or Mojos.
MQ: If you could jam with one other band dead or alive who would it be?
J: Elvis.
MQ: You're on a desert island and can only choose five records to take, what are they?
J: THAT IS SO HARD!!! Frank Ocean - Channel Orange, The Beatles - White Album, Kanye West & Jay Z - Watch The Throne, Arctic Monkeys - AM, and Tame Impala - Currents.
MQ: Finally, and most importantly, will there be an after party on Saturday?
J: I hope so hehehe.
S: Josh and Jordi's house!
