"All three of us are really tight, we've got an unfakable chemistry 'cause we're all such good mates."

More Maverick More Maverick

Maverick has been in the works since 2009, taking until last year to knuckle down and hit the live circuit in Melbourne with all they've got, alongside acts such as Gold Member, Neon Queen and Birdhouse. Bassist and singer Paul Kascamanidis can't contain his enthusiasm for the trio: "Each member brings his own influences and inspirations, which is what makes our sound so unique. All three of us are really tight, we've got an unfakable chemistry 'cause we're all such good mates."

Their single Blood Orange Sun came out of a fun jam session between mates. "Irish brought in the bass part, Rolls messed around until he found the guitar part he was hearing and Bozz came up with that killer groove, the parts just all fell into place," Kascamanidis says. The band then laid it down with James Summer and Goran Mitic. According to Kascamanidis, "The production side of things is a real creative process so we need to fully trust everyone working with us."

They drew influence from the live performances of this track before heading into the studio, he tells. "We found the parts people sang along to, which helped when we got to cutting it to a single-length song. We found people really dug the chorus so we wrote a double chorus at the end for all of ya," he laughs. "We also wrote, gigged and recorded the single in the summer of 2016 and that certainly bled through into the track - it's definitely a dose of summer."
